The Land Application of Wastewater is a reliable method of treating effluent through irrigation. The soil and plants act as filters that trap and treat, through various mechanisms, contaminants in the effluent and allow it to drain through the soil profile.  The treated effluent provides an effective source of nutrients that the plant roots are able to assimilate. This method of treatment is not only effective; it may also help to alleviate water consumption demand for irrigation purposes in the appropriate setting, such as parks and golf courses.  Depending upon the system, land application can be a low tech forested site or wooded plantation, such as the system at Garfield Bay, or a highly complex reuse system, like the state of the art Membrane BioReactor (MBR) system at Gozzer Ranch.
